A national developer plans to open its first Houston community to the public on April 18-19. Crescent Communities is getting ready to unveil The Groves, a new master-planned community in the woods northeast of Houston. The 993 acre community if off West Lake Houston Parkway, just sought of Kingwood near Beltway 8 and Lake Houston.
The Charlotte, NC based developer has partnered with 6 homebuilders to construct the first 189 of an estimated 2,200 homes planned for The Groves. Crescent Communities has more than 20 communities under development across the country, including 3 in Austin and 1 in Dallas.
Darling Homes, David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, Taylor Morrison, Trendmaker Homes and Village Builders will formally unveil model homes in The Groves later this month. The homes range in size from 2,000 sq.ft. to 4,600 sq.ft. and in price from the high-$200,000s to $500,00.
The Groves will feature amenities that cater to a “life in the woods,” said Nicole Zimmerman, The Groves’ project manager. Crescent Communities is nearly finished with its welcome center, which features a pavilion overlooking a large outdoor plaza, fire pit, grill and a lawn accentuated by a metal pine cone sculpture. The welcome center also features a sales center with a large touch-screen TV, multi-purpose room and outdoor playground plus splash pad featuring a working water pump. Around the community, the developer completed the entry wall with a lookout tower feature and the first section of about five miles of wooded trails.
Future plans call for a treehouse and fish camp, featuring a cabin and pond. A recreation center, with a resort-style pool, is expected in mid-2017. Crescent Communities also will higher a full-time lifestyle director, who will plan activities – like movie night on the lawn – for residents of The Groves.
“It’s not just about sticks and bricks,” Zimmerman said. “It’s about activating the community.”
